Rains ahead of river fete cheer devotees

TS asks Maharashtra to release water as a precautionary step

Adilabad: Heavy rains in the districts of north Telangana for the last two days have brought cheers to lakhs of devotees of the region as the river Godavari is gradually receiving water.

It is believed that there will be sufficient water in the river by the time Pushkaralu commences on July 4. As a precaution, the state government has requested the Maharashtra government to release water from the projects upstream of the river if there is insufficient water in the Godavari during Pushkaralu.

The state government is also planning to release water from the Sriramsagar Project. It is said that the Pushkar ghats being constructed at various places will get natural curing with the rains and there is no need of taking water from outside for the purpose.

Endowments minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy has said that 67 ghats have been constructed already and the rest will be completed by June 30.

B. Venkatesh of Adilabad whose family is planning to take a holy dip during Godavari pushkaralu at Kaleshwaram in Karimnagar said there would be no shortage of water if rains continue till the end of the this month.
