Move to shift rural police HQs to Mamnoor opposed

They feel that they would face problems

Warangal: The Telangana government set up a police commissionerate in Warangal in view of the rising crime rate here. However, immediately after the government appointed a commissioner for Warangal commissionerate, a hitch showed up.

Before the city police depar-tment was made into a comm-issionerate, both the urban and rural sections of the department operated from the police headquarters in Hanamkonda. With commissioner D. Sudheer Babu taking charge on Friday, the steps required to turn the police system into commissionerate will soon gain pace.

The rural wing of the police department would be relocated to Mamnoor where the rural headquarters is going to be set up and the existing urban police complex will be converted into commissioner’s office. The government also took a decision to this effect.

However, the rural police and their family members have appealed to the government to let the rural wing continue operating from the police headquarters along with the commissioner's office. They feel that they would face problems if the rural headquarters is set up in Mamnoor.

“We have been staying for years in police quarters in Hanamkonda. Our children go to school which is nearby. I can stay at home without any fear even if my husband comes home late from duty. If we relocate to Mamnoor, our children will be forced to travel long distance on the highway to go to school, which is not safe. Moreover, Mamnoor is away from the city and nearer to the forest area. Hence we are bothered about safety,” said Hymavathi, wife of a cop.
