Lizard in flyer’s meal? No, says Air India

Air India has investigated the “incident” and has found it to be false and baseless
New Delhi: National carrier Air India on Saturday officially rubbished reports aired by some TV channels that had alleged that a lizard was found in a meal tray served on a Delhi-London flight on Thursday.
The reports caused an uproar since the TV channels also broadcast a picture of a meal tray with a lizard sticking out of it. Air India called the reports “false and baseless” and said this was the conclusion after it had probed these reports.
Before Air India formally denied such an incident ever happened, Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju was quoted by a news agency as telling a TV channel, “That’s also a serious thing. Air India is not expected to serve lizard neither the cooks are expected to cook lizards.”
According to news agencies, the picture of the lizard in the meal tray that was broadcast by TV channels also went viral on the social media.
In a statement issued on Saturday afternoon, Air India said, “This has reference to a report in the media, including on the social media, that a passenger had found “a lizard in his/her meal tray” on board AI-111 (Delhi-London) of June 11, 2015, (Thursday), with a photograph attached. Air India has investigated the “incident” and has found it to be false and baseless. No such complaint by any passenger of the flight has been received on board the flight or at the Air India office in London.”
