KOZHIKODE: The police team probing the shootout at the Kozhikode international airport on Wednesday night will charge fire authority supervisor Aji Kumar and CISF sub-inspector Seetharam Choudhary with culpable homicide under section 304 of IPC.
The two, now undergoing treatment in the hospital, would be arrested soon. Sources said that Aji Kumar would be the first accused in the case which led to the death of a CISF jawan and the subsequent violence.
Malappuram DYSP S. Abhilash said that a case would be charged against 25 jawans who went on the rampage at the airport destroying properties. “The Airport Authority of India (AAI) had estimated the loss at Rs 53 lakh besides Rs 1.5 crore loss estimated by the fire and rescue department,” he said.
Meanwhile, the probe team headed by Kondotty inspector B. Santhosh has reportedly objected to the CISF decision to transfer 100 jawans to Bangalore in the wake of the incident.
The police contention is that the transfer of jawans, who were accomplices in the incident, would affect the inquiry. The CISF decision was in the wake of the report submitted by its IG, K.K. Sahai, who has been camping at Karipur since the incident.
The nine fire and safety officials arrested on Friday were produced before the judicial first class magistrate court-1 at Manjeri and was remanded in custody for 14 days. Sources said that only one bullet was fired from the gun of Choudhary, and not three as reported. That would be confirmed only after conducting the ballistic test.
AAI regional executive director I.N. Murthy reached the airport on Saturday and held discussions with top officials.
