Andhra Pradesh bus mishap: State orders probe

The officials will revive the drive from June 15

Ongole: Transport minister Sidda Raghava Rao said that the government ordered inquiry into the van accident at Dowleswaram barrage in Rajahmundry, which claimed 22 lives. Addressing a press meet held in Ongole city on Saturday, the minister said that local road transport officer will conduct inquiry and submit a report.

Mr Raghava Rao said that the government will pay an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to kin of the deceased. He said the negligence of the driver might have led to the mishap. He said that home minister Nimmakaya Chinarajappa went to the accident spot and briefed the matter to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

He reminded that the government has launched a special drive to book cases against the vehicles and buses plying without valid licenses and permits and added that so far the officials booked 13,000 cases in last month.

The officials will revive the drive from June 15. He said that the government has decided to construct rest rooms on the highways for drivers soon to reduce road accidents. Stating the phone tapping of ministers and officials as unconstitutional, he warned that the T-people will teach a lesson to the KCR soon.
