I’m a happy go lucky person: Shruthy Menon

Although Shruthy Menon is best known for playing intense roles on screen, off it she is quite the contrary

Known for her roles in offbeat films, Shruthy Menon finds it challenging to play strong characters. Currently working in a film titled Kismat, the talented actress spoke to us about her upcoming films and more. “I play the character of a mature, level headed SC girl, Anita, who falls in love with a younger Muslim boy, Irfan. The film directed by Shanavas K. Bavakutty is a story about an unusual incident occurring in an unusual set up and pans over one eventful night,” she says.

When quizzed why she prefers deglamourous roles, she says, “The character I portray in a film should be interesting to me. I have played different characters so far, out of which most of them are intense. Though challenging, such roles are not difficult to perform. I love to pick characters that give scope to perform.” Does she do any homework before enacting a role? “Yes. I study my character completely before I face the camera.”

Shruthy admits that in real life, she is just the opposite of the roles she portrays. “Interestingly, most of the roles I do are contrary to my real character. In real life, I am a very casual, happy-go-lucky person. My friends call me ‘life of a party’. Having said that, I am also a very private person who loves to spend time with my family,” she smiles.

Talking about her dream role, the actress shares, “I thoroughly loved the way Meryl Streep played the role of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the film The Iron Lady. It was mind-blowing. I’d like to do something along those lines. Besides my dream role, I would now love to explore more than the dark and intense roles I have portrayed so far. Something with a lot of quirkiness and perhaps a playful or even a comic role. I am generally making people in my life laugh. So why not in a movie,” she winks.

Shruthy finds it inappropriate to address a film industry as Mollywood, Tollywood, and Bollywood and so on. She says, “I don’t know why people address them so. We are aping Hollywood. But wherein Hollywood is a place in a Los Angeles. The classy way to address a film industry is to address them as the Malayalam film industry, Tamil film industry, Telugu film industry and so on.”

Apart from acting, Shruthy hosts shows in Mumbai. “Mainly, I host the shows of singer Sonu Nigam. They are very entertaining.” The leggy beauty has two projects in the pipeline. “Talks for a Tamil and a Malayalam film are going on.”
