Pakistan would not be provoked, says Nawaz Sharif
Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan will not be dismayed or provoked by the “war-like rhetoric from India”. Mr Sharif said Pakistan wants peace in the region but the quest for peace cannot be unilateral.
He said, “Such tactics vitiates the atmosphere and takes us farther away from our goals of regional peace and stability. We will persevere in our quest for a peaceful neighbourhood. But there should be reciprocity and acknowledgement of the overtures I have made to promote the dialogue process”.
Addressing the three-day envoys’ conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here, Nawaz Sharif mentioned his recent meeting with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in Tajikistan and said that there appeared to be no acknowledgement of the initiatives he had taken to promote a dialogue process with India. Ambassadors from 14 countries of Saarc and ECO regions are participating in the conference.
