Basketball: Now, a Shariah-compliant uniform to help Muslim girls play

Dresses feature long-sleeved tunic tops, leggings with a tighter hijab and a flexible skirt

Karachi: A team of US-based Muslim girls has come up with a Shariah-compliant uniform to play basketball, ending their dilemma of either to exit the game or wear a dress that doesn't conform to their culture and religious believes.

The middle-school girls, playing for Cedar Riverside, who choose to play at girls-only session at Brian Coyle Community Center twice-a-week, designed their own clothing to match their needs, the Tribune reported.

The team's point guard, Sihal Ali said that she wouldn't be able to do moves or anything because of her skirt, and every time she runs her wrap keeps falling. The girls, along with community volunteers, sewed the uniforms at Mosque Shafici for four weeks in April.

The dresses feature long-sleeved tunic tops, leggings with a tighter hijab and a flexible skirt.
