Why did they burn me?: Last words of Uttar Pradesh journalist burnt alive
New Delhi: A video of Jagendra Singh, the journalist who was mercilessly burnt alive in Uttar Pradesh, has emerged on the Internet.
In the shocking video, Singh is seen lying on a hospital bed suffering with burn injuries.
Struggling to speak, he says that police inspector Sri Prakash Rai and his team forced themselves into his house and assaulted him, instead of just arresting him.
Crying for justice, he says, “Why did they have to burn me alive? If ministers and goons had something against me, they could have beaten me up instead of pouring kerosene and torching me.”
Singh’s death has led to a major controversy in the state with the FIR naming a minister and five others for the incident.

The Shahjahanpur–based journalist was set on fire during a police raid in his house on June 1 and his family members claim that a police officer set him on fire for an allegedly derogatory Facebook post against UP minister Ram Murti Varma.
Police, meanwhile, insisted that the journalist immolated himself during the police raid and received about 60 per cent burn injuries in the incident.
Jagendra Singh, who succumbed to his injuries on Monday night, reportedly told IG civil defence Amitabh Thakur, who visited him in hospital, that minister Ram Murti Varma had ‘unleashed’ a reign of terror on him and his family for his investigative reports.
