T Harish Rao asks why raise row over project
“You (AP) want all facilities like water and power in Hyderabad” Mr Harish Rao asked
Hyderabad: Telangana irrigation minister T. Harish Rao on Friday asked the rationale behind TD leaders objecting to the Palamuru and Nakkalagandi Lift Irrigation schemes when it would provide drinking water to Hyderabad where the Andhra Pradesh government staff also stay. He said that to augment the drinking water supply of Hyderabad city, 10 TMC ft of additional storage for drinking had been envisaged in the Palamuru Lift scheme, which would be stored in the twin reservoirs of Osmansagar and Himayatsagar.
“You (AP) want all facilities like water and power in Hyderabad, yet you don’t want additional water for Hyderabad, how is it justified?” Mr Harish Rao asked. He also said that ironically the AP leaders did not object when water was being provided for drinking to Chennai through the Telugu Ganga project though Chennai was not in Krishna Basin. They are objecting to supply of Krishna water to the twin reservoirs, that are in Krishna basin, he added.
He asked whether Telangana Telugu Desam leaders too endorsed the views expressed by AP irrigation minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao in this regard. “Do you want these lift schemes for Telangana or not? You either say yes or no,” he asked Telangana TD leaders. Mr Harish Rao clarified that orders for detailed project surveys for both Palamuru Lift and Nakkalagandi Lift schemes were given during Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s regime and they were not newly conceived projects as was being alleged by the AP government.
Condemning the statement of the AP irrigation minister that the TS government was taking up new projects without sanctions and approvals from concerned authorities, Mr Harish Rao said, “Pothireddypadu head regulator, Galeru-Nagari, Handri-Neva, Teluguganga and Veligonda projects, which are now nearing completion in AP, do not have approvals and sanctions from concerned authorities even now. I want to know with whose approval is the AP government constructing the Pattiseema project?”
