RO plants lie defunct in Kurnool

100 purified water plants set up in Kurnool constituency
Anantapur: Several RO water plants are defunct in Kurnool city. These were installed by former minister T.G. Venkatesh during his tour of the wards in the city before the general elections. Sources said, Mr Venka-tesh had worked as minister during the Congress regime but shifted loyalties to Telugu Desam protesting against bifurcation of the state.
Prior, to that he had also led Rayalaseema Hakkula Ikya Vedika that fought against state division.
During his tenure as minister, Mr Venkatesh had un-dertaken a tourin Kurnool Urban Assembly constit-uency as part of preparatory measures by laying foundations and implementing new schemes in the view of upcoming general polls.
The Rayalaseema Hakkula Ikya Vedika founder had established purified water plants at many slums in Kurnool city.
Sources said about 100 purified water plants were set up in the urban Asse-mbly constituency of Kur-nool a few weeks before the general polls.
Water plants were also set up at schools, busy centres and bus stops to provide pure and safe drinking water.
The sitting Congress party MLA had shifted loyalties to Telugu Desam and contested as TD candidate from the same seat. In a triangle contest, Mr Venkatesh tasted defeat against YSR Congress candidate S.V. Mohan Reddy.
Hurt by the defeat, Mr Venkatesh was inactive in politics for a few months hoping to have a victory for his individual services and also innovative projects for the beautification of Kurnool city, a close aide of the leader observed.
