Oommen Chandy takes stock of campaign
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Having declared the forthcoming by-election as a referendum on the performance of his four year Government, Mr Oommen Chandy is taking no chances with the election campaign.
At a high level meeting in his official residence Cliff House on Friday, attended by senior leaders, ministers and legislators, Chandy made it clear that a victory in Aruvikkara was a must for the ruling front.
The chief minister pointed out that Aruvikkara would pave the way for a positive electoral outcome in the local bodies poll in September and the crucial Assembly polls in April 2016.
The chief minister has entrusted responsibilities to ministers, MPs and MLAs at booth level, to ensure that every voter is approached and marked ahead of the polls. With just a fortnight left for the polls, the UDF is trying to devise booth wise strategy.
Ministers, legislators and frontal organisation leaders have been entrusted with the charge of 150 odd booths in the constituency.
Top leaders of the CPM including E P Jayarajan, M V Govaindan Master, K Radhakrishnan, P K Sreemathy, T N Seema, Raju Abraham are camping in the constituency.
State secretariat, state committee and district committee leaders have been entrusted with the charge of booths. Senior BJP leaders V Muraleedharan, P K Krishna Das, V V Rajesh are also camping in the constituency.
With chief minister Oommen Chandy and Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan starting a whirlwind tour of the constituency next week, Aruvikkara battle ground is all set to witness high voltage campaign in the coming days. Congress Working Committee member who inaugurated the UDF convention, will carry out another round of campaign holding public meetings and road shows in the constituency.
CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran, Janata Dal (S) state president Mathew T Thomas are also carrying out campaign in the constituency. Similarly leaders of UDF constituents ; K M Mani, P K Kunhalikutty, M P Veerendrakumar are also in the forefront in the electoral battle.
