Kerala Congress to take action against PC George
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Congress (M) is planning to take action against former government chief whip P.C. George for fielding a candidate from his outfit Anti Corruption Democratic Front (ACDF) against the official candidate of the UDF.
Since George has not been suspended or expelled by Kerala Congress, he continues to be part of the UDF. KC(M) leaders by deciding to field ACDF candidate K Das from the constituency, George has committed grave anti party act which could invite serious disciplinary action.
The KCM steering committee is scheduled to meet on June 14 in Kochi to discuss the issue.
“This is the beginning of the disciplinary action against George. First he will be served a show cause notice, suspension and expulsion from the party will follow. His decision to field a candidate against UDF in the crucial by poll is totally unacceptable,” said a leader.
After his removal from the post of Government Chief Whip the party had decided not to initiate any disciplinary action.
It wanted George to quit on his own which would have prevented him from defecting to the opposition. Expulsion on the other hand would lend him a martyr’s tag and he would also be able to circumvent action under provisions of anti defection law.
George on the other is unperturbed by the party move and would continue to seek support for his candidate from the electorate.
The former Government Chief Whip led ACDF had carried out an extensive exercise including referendum to select its candidate. Das was selected from among four candidates, securing over 5000 of the total 8000 votes polled in the referendum. sThe ACDF main aim, according to him, is to defeat the 'corrupt’ UDF Government.
