Karnataka: CM Siddaramaiah dumps Chinchansur’s Vastra Bhagya

Siddaramaiah said the scheme was not even thought about by the government

MYSURU: A day after minister for textiles Babu Rao Chinchansur announced the state government envisaged distribution of sarees and dhotis for members of BPL families, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the scheme was not even thought about by the government.

When asked about “Vastra bhagya” on arrival here, he told the media: “We are yet to even contemplate about it and nothing has been finalized. I don’t know how and in which context he (Mr Chinchansur) announced it.” On his two-day visit to New Delhi earlier this week, he said various political developments were discussed at the meeting of Congress Chief Ministers of nine states and added that though he discussed the issue of an expansion of his cabinet with top leaders of the party he would not disclose details of these discussion.

He, however, revealed that he would visit Delhi again for another round of discussions on expansion of the cabinet before polls to BBMP. On his meetings with three Union ministers during his visit to Delhi, he said the state government has successfully utilised funds allocated under JNNURM, and even bagged an award.

“We have asked the Union Minister to release the remaining funds for projects which are half completed. As they are planning to stop Rajiv Gandhi Awaz Yojana, we requested them to atleast give the benefits for projects which are being approved,” he added.

Asked about comments of BJP leaders B. S. Yeddyurappa that his government would not last long in the wake of various scams, he said: “I do not want to react to comments by people who have gone to jail. We have already handed the lottery scam to CBI. Tell us one scam which was handed over to CBI when they were in power.”
