Counselling starts in Andhra Pradesh at 34 centres

Nearly 9,000 students participated in Web counselling to verify their certificates

KAKINADA/VIzag/NELLORE/VIJAYAWADA/TIRUPATI: The AP Eamcet-2015 started on Friday at 34 centres in the state with nearly 9,000 students participating in Web counselling to verify their certificates.

However, the authorities failed to provide proper facilities and it led to applicants and parents facing a tough time at various centres.

Tension prevailed during counselling for Eamcet at SV University when ABVP and SFI activists started protesting over reduction in the number of seats at Tirupati. Police intervened and pacified the students.

Human resources development minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao formally launched the web counselling at the Government Institute of Chemical Engineering. However, a sudden heavy downpour in the morning affected many students.

Mr Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that Andhra University and JNTU had been asked to verify the infrastructure and other facilities at various engineering colleges and so far five engineering colleges had been asked to shut down due to lack of infrastructure. He said as many as 6,000 engineering seats were cancelled in the state to improve the standards this year.
