CIAL profits over the top, net up by 16.25 per cent

Passengers handled in the airport was has increased by over a million

Kochi: Cochin International Airport Ltd has clocked a net profit of '144.58 cr in financial year 2014-15, up 16.25 per cent compared with the previous year.

A board meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, also the chairman of CIAL, has recommended a dividend of 21 per cent.

The total turnover of CIAL, the first airport under the public-private-partnership mode in the country, has risen to Rs 413.96 cr, up 14.55 per cent from Rs 361.39 cr in the previous year.

The company has shown uptrend in all segments of its operations, according to a spokesman.

The passenger handled in the airport crossed 6 million during the year under review. In 2013-14, the total number of passengers handled by the airport was 5.3 million and in 2014-15 it rose to 6.4 million, a growth of 21 per cent, he added. The cargo movement from the airport also went up by 19.28 per cent to 64,935 tonne.

The airport is on an expansion spree with several new projects including the construction of a new international terminal with an estimated cost of Rs 1,050 cr.

The new terminal is expected to be completed in May next year. The AGM of CIAL will be held at the Fine Arts Hall in Ernakulam on August 18 2015.
