Bharathiar University gets Rs 4.5 crore from UGC
The funding will be used to initiate new research activities in nano technology
COIMBATORE: The University Grants Commission has sanctioned Rs 4.5 crore as special assistance programmes to six departments in Bharathiar University for undertaking high end research.
The university vice-chancellor, G. James Pitchai said that the funding will be used to initiate new research activities in nano technology, physics, mathematics, commerce, botany and statistics. The research studies in utilisation of solar energy have achieved significant progress and he expressed the hope that Bharathiar University will be able to contribute to Tamil Nadu government’s initiatives of improving green energy sources.
For the first time in Bharathiar University, six departments have been simultaneously sanctioned SAP programme by the UGC. Besides, the department of science and technology (DST) sanctioned an amount Rs 9 crore as research funding after evaluating the improvement in research activities in the university. Utilising the funds, the university has procured sophisticated research equipment, the vice-chancellor said.
