Hyderabad: Three thieves held, 17 laptops recovered

Gang used to steal from men’s hostels
Hyderabad: The police arrested a three-member gang of thieves and recovered 17 laptops and cell phones worth around Rs 3 lakh on Friday. The gang is involved in about 13 thefts. Police said the gang sneaks into hostel rooms while the inmates are sleeping and steal valuables. The accused were identified as Mohammed Javeed alias Javeed, 31, a car driver and resident of Kanchanbagh, Nagabothu Rajasekhar, 24, a student and resident of Sri Chaitanya Boys Hostel in Yellareddyguda and a native of Mulakaluru Narasaraopet in Guntur district, Mittana Krishna alias Krishna, 29, a labourer and resident of Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar. He is a native of Suryanarayanapuram in Kakinada. Javeed is the prime accused and is involved in 10 cases.
West zone DCP A. Venkateshwara Rao said Javeed is a habitual criminal and was lodged at the Cherlapally and Chanchalguda prisons for cell phone thefts. The modus operandi of the thieves is to go to men’s hostels and enter rooms which are open and in which the occupants are asleep. They sneak into the rooms during the early hours and steal laptops, cell phones and other valuables.
Nagabothu Rajasekhar who is staying at the Sri Chaitanya Boys Hostel in Yellareddyguda used to steal from hostels in SR Nagar. Cops recovered four laptops from him.
Mittana Krishna sleeps on the pavement and used to steal laptops from 2010. He was jailed about five times. The arrested men were produced before court and sent to judicial custody on Friday.
