Movie review 'Inimey Ippadithaan': Nothing phenomenal

Discounting theories of beauty being in the eye of the beholder - the more good looking the man, the higher the chance that he’d end up with a woman who’d probably be found wanting in looks and cultivation. And similarly, vice versa – the attractive females end up with the basket cases. This is the name of the game in Inimey Ippadithaan, and this is the arena in which Seenu (Santhanam) finds himself in. Seenu is a good(ish) looking guy – young, slim, and full of wit and brio. Seeking to disprove the above theory, he lands himself in the soup by attracting not one girl, but two good looking ladies through a number of unforeseen incidents. They both seem to desire his love and Seenu makes a complete mess of things. What would be the end result when you have a comic and two ladies who constantly strive for his attention? It’s a carefully crafted comedy fest that is meant to appeal to Santhanam’s acting and dialogues.

Directed by debutant Murugan-Anand, II has a paper thin plot and storyline but features Santhanam hogging the limelight, and is laced with one-liners that provide much entertainment. It is simple, easily crafted, and is probably a good source of time pass, if indeed boredom needs to be kept at bay. But precisely due to its wafer thin script, the film is sure to leave your head soon after you’ve left the theatres.

The attractive ladies are played by Ashna Zaveri (Maha) and Akila Kishore (Akila), both of whom are drastically different in character and attitude (one is bold, the other, shy and reserved) but yet provide much pleasantness to the eyes. Thambi Ramaiah as usual delivers. Seenu loves Maha, but his parents and his uncle have arranged for Akila through formal mediations. Although the movie could have easily moved in a direction of heavy emotions, Santhanam and the director knew that such a path would have been disastrous. Gopi Jagadheeshwaran and Santhosh Dhayanidhi have Dcooperated in this regard by chiming in nicely with their pleasing visuals and peppy musically. In the end, the films saving grace is also probably its nemesis: that of ill-logical humor all the way and an avoidance of reality checks. Nothing phenomenal, but Innimey …..would probably be a favorite among the B & C theatre going groups.
