Pervez Musharraf says nuclear weapons not for festivals

Musharraf said that India has a clear agenda to suppress and destabilise Pakistan
Islamabad: In an apparent warning of using nuclear weapons against India, former Pakistan military ruler Pervez Musharraf said on Thursday that Pakistan did not build nuclear weapons to fire on Shab-e-Baraat, an Islamic festival celebrated two weeks ahead of the fasting month of Ramzan every year.
“If I say in (former PM) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s style, do we have nukes saved to be used on Shab-e-Barrat,” he said.
In an interview with a Pakistani television channel, Mr Musharraf said that India has a clear agenda to suppress and destabilise Pakistan.
“Deal with them with sovereign equality, my experience is they will further suppress if we back off. Their stance is offensive one,” he added. “We do not want to use nuclear capability but if our existence comes under threat, who do we have these nuclear weapons for,” he said.
Pak criticises Indian ministers’ statements:
The Pakistani Senate on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the recent “provocative and hostile” statements from prominent Indian leaders against Pakistan. The resolution was submitted by Leader of the House Raja Zafarul Haq.
The resolution said such attempts by India are unacceptable and Pakistan rejects this ongoing “hegemonic mindset”. It emphasised that Pakistan will never allow its territory to be violated by India under any pretext.
The political leaders in Senate stated that Pakistani armed forces are fully capable to give a befitting response to any incursion.
