Don’t worry Revanth, nothing will happen: Telugu Desam leaders
Hyderabad: “Don’t worry Revanth, nothing will happen…” These were the words several leaders had for A. Revanth Reddy, the beleagured TD MLA facing charges in the cash-for-vote scam, during his daughter Nymisha’s engagement on Thursday.
Though Mr Revanth Reddy received the guests and exchanged pleasantries, he did not talk much with anyone and remained on the stage with his family members sporting a smile throughout. Sources said that politicians meeting Mr Revanth Reddy too fell short of words and some of them just managed to say: “Fikar math... Sab theek ho jayega (Don’t worry… everything will be fine).”
Mr Revanth Reddy could not even speak at length with AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu since any violation of the court’s directive would land him in trouble and a full-fledged bail in future may be denied.
Though the sleuths of Telangana Intelligence department, Special Branch and ACB as well as some employees of the Cherlapally jail kept a close watch, they could not dampen the spirits. Mr Revanth Reddy tried his best to ensure that his case did not cast any shadow over the function.
The SB policemen followed Mr Revanth Reddy even to the dinning room, but they did not enter his residence and kept a watch on the visitors. In the morning, Mr Revanth Reddy had driven straight to his residence at 6.40 am. His family members broke a gourd to ward off evil spirits. In the evening, Mr Revanth Reddy headed back to the jail half-an-hour before the scheduled.
Desam MLA A. Revanth Reddy attended his own daughter’s engagement ceremony like a guest. Since he was out on a 12-hour bail, he had no time to oversee the arrangements.
The moment he reached the venue, some TD activists showered flowers on him, indicating that it this was not just a family function, but a party ceremony too. The TD had also sent out SMSes inviting mediapersons.
Several Congress and BJP leaders, including K. Jana Reddy, Sabitha Indra Reddy, Danam Nagender, Palvai Goverdhan Reddy, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Sudhir Reddy and Nagam Janardhan Reddy also attended the ceremony.
Mr Janardhan Reddy said TS CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao was the “real culprit.” “Everyone knows that TRS cannot win the fifth MLC seat with 13 MLAs not voting for his candidate. But still he managed to get his man elected. How?” he asked.
TD MLA A. Revanth Reddy’s daughter Nymisha Reddy is from Telangana region while her prospective groom, G. Satyanarayana Reddy, is from Andhra Pradesh. Mr Satyanarayana Reddy hails from Bhimavaram in West Godavari district and is a businessman.
His father G. Venkata Reddy has a Honda showroom at Bhimavaram and the family has some farmlands in the rice-rich areas.
Mr Revanth Reddy hugged his prospective son-in-law immediately after he reached the N Convention centre. He also took the blessings of the elderly family members.
Mr Revanth Reddy personally went up to the groom’s family members and greeted them. Nymisha is a techie and some of her batchmates also attended the ceremony.
