Vijayawada: Kanakadurga Temple road turns risky for devotees
Devotees are more concerned because of the mild earthquake experienced by the city

Vijayawada: Devotees visiting the Kanakadurga Temple atop the Indrakeeladri Hills are a worried lot because of cases reported about stones falling on the Ghat Road from the hilltop during rainy season. Though it's not the first time the case of falling stones has been reported, the devotees are more concerned because of the mild earthquake experienced by the city a few days ago.
On previous occasions too boulders have injured devotees on their way to the Kanakadurga Temple but temporary measures taken up by the temple authority kept the residents and devotees calm. However, with the mild earthquake tremors being felt in the city, the situation has taken an altogether different turn now. Meanwhile, with the rainy season fast approaching, devotees are expressing doubts over the vulnerability of the iron mesh arranged round the hill to protect them from loose boulders.
T. Ratnakar, a resident of the area, expressed his doubt on the strength of the iron fencing and sought a permanent solution from the management. “This is the third time we have noticed stones falling on the Ghat Road. Whenever rains hit the city, it becomes a threat to devotees. It would be better to take actions beforehand,” he suggested.
Meanwhile, people feel that the retaining wall constructed years ago to stop objects from falling on the Ghat Road has given desired results and they demanded a similar solution. When contacted, the temple spokesperson said, “All the necessary actions have been taken for the Ghat Road.” He requested the devotees not to panic over it.
