Hyderabad: A youngster, now aged 21, who ran away from his house in Amberpet as a nine-year-old, was reunited with his parents with the help of NGOs and the police on Thursday.
The clincher was a tattoo that the man and his mother shared. Anjaneyulu had run away in 2004 after his parents scolded him, and took a train to Chennai.
According to South Zone DCP V. Satyanarayana, Anjaneyulu worked in a Chennai hotel for some time. He was involved in crime as a minor and was lodged in a juvenile home. He was released after four years and came into contact with S. Sattaiah Babu, director of Scope India in Chennai. “He stayed there for three months and learnt car driving then,” the DC said.
Later, he was handed over to Help Age India in Hyderabad. The organisation approached the Charminar police and requested to trace his family, Mr Satyanarayana said. Charminar inspector A. Yadagiri and his team located Anjaneyulu’s parents at Amberpet. His parents, who work as ragpickers, were overjoyed. Anjaneyulu and his mother Anjamma have similar tattoos on their right arms which helped the police reunite them.
