New Delhi: Justice C.S. Karnan of the Madras High Court has said that the collegium system of judges appointment was functioning in an autocratic manner and that he welcomed the NJAC.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of India H.L. Dattu on June 11, Justice Karnan referred to the on-going hearing in the apex court a batch of petitions on validity of NJAC and said “my candid view is that the collegium system is functioning in an autocratic manner. The Madras High Court collegium has operated in an autocratic manner and disturbed my mind and judicial work. In order to prove the same, I nurture a burning desire for an open comprehensive enquiry.”
Justice Karnan has sent copies of his letter to the President, the Prime Minister, Union Law Minister and Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
