Guntur: Gambusia fish to fight mosquitoes

Guntur: Guntur Municipal Corporation has initiated biological measures to contain mosquito density in the city in the ensuing rainy season by introducing Gambusia fish in fresh water ponds, wells and low lying areas in the city. The fish survive by eating the mosquito larva.

G. Veerraju, biologist at GMC, said they have been cultivating the fish at eight identified fresh water ponds in the city to put them in the different fresh water ponds. Mr Veerraju also informed that there are other measures like placing oil balls in dirty water, initiated by GMC to curb mosquito menace.
