Hyderabad: AP police has found that around 800 tonnes of red sanders stock is now in Dubai under the custody of notorious smugglers. The sustained intelligence by AP police revealed that noted smugglers like Sahul Hameed have stocked up huge quantity of the expensive wood that has been smuggled out from Andhra.
AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said in a recent meeting, “We have information that 800 tonnes of red sanders wood is in Dubai. This has been smuggled out of the country.”
A senior AP police official said, “In the past few years this has been smuggled out. It is worth hundreds of crores. Dubai is a transit point and it is being smuggled out to other countries like China, Singapore and Japan. After the recent efforts by AP police, there is pressure on smugglers and the smuggling activity is also on the radar of global smugglers.” “We asked UAE to help and MEA to nab smugglers and get it back,” said a senior official.
