Mumbai: Over the years, hockey in India failed to grab the attention. The sticks were stained by regular change of coaches, sex scandal allegations among many. Amidst all the sound and fury, the efforts of the players remained unrecognised.
A recent advertisement shot every Indian point blank.
It comprised Team India hockey players and how they feel deprived of support in spite of achievements.
“We were the first to qualify for the Olympics,” says skipper Sardar Singh, before coach Van Ass adds: “The world knows about it, India doesn’t.”
“What didn’t happen in 15 years, we did it in a year. We beat world’s top five teams,” says goalkeeper PR Sreejesh.
All heads are hung in shame after the commercial became viral on social media. But that’s the truth behind Indian hockey. People of India wrote them off after the team fell off the radar at one point of time but times have changed.
Sardar’s boys are back to winning ways and all they need is some love, love is all they need.
