Thiruvananthapuram: Two held with elephant tusks
The two were handed over to the Kodanand divisional forest station
KOCHI: The forest intelligence unit from Thiruvananthapuram, with the support of forest officials in Kochi, have arrested two persons with a pair of elephant tusks here on Wednesday. The arrest took place when the accused were on their way to sell the tusks, officials said. The arrested have been identified as Sivakumar (30), a native of Kasipalayam near Erode in Tamil Nadu and Vishnudas (21), belonging to Puthanpurayil Veetil at Kattanam near Bharanikkavu. The two, on their way to Ernakulam with the tusks from Attappadi, were held from Edappally by the intelligence unit who were accompanied by other forest officials.
The intelligence unit headed by the Divisional Forest Officer, laid a trap for the accused based on secret information and held the two. The pair of tusks recovered from the duo had a length of 33cm and 13.5 cm respectively. The two alleged culprits confessed that they were carrying the tusks for sale in Kochi. The two were handed over to the Kodanand divisional forest station.
