Mumbai drunk driving accident: Victim's family calls for justice

Court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow

Mumbai: Two days after a corporate lawyer, Janhvi Gadkar, rammed her Audi SUV into a taxi, killing two of the occupants, the victim's family has alleged that the police did not help those injured and have called for justice in the case.

"We went out to celebrate after my class 10 results were declared. While retuning, we met with an accident. The police van that arrived at the spot watched us for a while and then left from the scene. Since the vehicle had an advocate's sign in it, the police did not help us," alleged Numan Sabuwala, the son of one of the victims.

"We want justice. Court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow," he added.

The accident, which took place in the Chembur suburb of Mumbai at around 1:00 am on Tuesday, occurred after the advocate, Jahnavi Gadkar, rammed her car into the taxi, allegedly in an inebriated state.

"This accident took place at 1 o clock at night. The car had a head on collision. We took out the man. After that the person was taken to the hospital. Two people lost their lives. There was a lawyer in the car, she was drunk. She offered the police money. Since morning we have been in the police station. We don't know where the police have kept the girl," an eyewitness said.
