State should focus on reopening sick units

Anantapur: At least 20 noted industries of various sectors including public and private wear a deserted look due after being locked out for various reasons in Anantapur district. The valuable buildings, machinery and other structures are laying waste without being used for any purpose.
More than 130 acres of Nizam Sugars factory site including 120 quarters and skeleton of the crushing unit at Parigi is still lying waste due to technical reasons. It may be recalled Parigi Sugar factory was sold out to Renuka Sugars of Belgaum during previous TD government for Rs 5 crore along with site and machinery.
The management had reportedly shifted valuable equipment to Karnataka and sold out the site and existing quarters to private persons over 10 years ago. However, a Hindupur- based businessman purchased the site, but had not started any industry or make use of existed valuable land of 130 acres so far. The trader had tried to dispose land to other industrialists but without following legal hurdles as the sugar factory management had to provide alternate industry in drought ridden of Anantapur district.
Maruthi Goldstar, a big silk industry established on NH-44 road near Penukonda locked out about eight years ago and the building along with machinery is deserted with the management unable to make alternate arrangements.
Workers have been engaged in other sectors for livelihood. AP Tools, a public sector industry established at NH road near Hindupur is a spectacle of only rusted machinery and collapsed building structures. CPI district secretary Jagadish observed the many workers had lost employment following closure of ind-ustries on various reasons.
Workers of Richman silks, another noted silk industry located on NH-44 near Kodikonda check post, had also suffered poor wages and district administration had to interfere to settle a sick unit.
Not even a single reeling unit, under the leadership of the state government is functioning in Rayalaseema region. “We have to depend on Ramanagar in Karnataka to purchase reeled silk for weaving of saris,” said B.Sreenivasulu, a weaver from Dharmavaram. Guntakal Spinning mills, and AP Lightings were among those locked out following heavy losses traumatising workers both skilled and unskilled. Hundreds of families depending on Guntakal Spinning mill were shifted to other sectors including daily labourers, observed CPI leader Mr.Jagadish.
An industrialist Puran Singh from Hindupur opined the government should also concentrate on reopening the sick industries to make use of valuable assets lying deserted for many years. Many private industries reportedly failed to clear dues with the banks that finally lead to closure of units. A special package for existing units would also help industrial development.
