India face Oman in World Cup 2018 qualifier

Blue Tigers will have to play out of their skins if they are to progress from the group

Bengaluru: Bengaluru has had its fair share of footballing drama in the recent past and the Garden City is all set to witness more when India take on Oman in their opening Group ‘D’ World Cup 2018 qualifier at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Thursday.

A win for India would stand them in good stead as the Blue Tigers will have to play out of their skins if they are to progress from a group that also features favourites Iran, Turkmenistan and Guam. Having led India to a goalless draw against Oman in his last outing as coach in his first spell, Stephen Constantine revealed that his side would be up for the task this time around too.

“From the first second of the first minute we will fight. We will press, push and make it as difficult as we can,” he said. Constantine’s side will also have to adjust to some changes in their squad as Sandesh Jhingan has been ruled out with an injury.
