Sale of stationery and books picks up in schools against norms

Vijayawada: With schools going to re-open in a couple of days, the private and corporate school managements are gearing up to sell uniforms and stationery violating all rules. According to education department, schools are not permitted to sell any products to students or force them to buy them at particular sellers.
With the education department turning blind eye to such practices by corporate and other private schools, students are being forced to buy everything from a slate pencil to uniform in their respective schools.
Many of the schools started selling textbooks and notebooks in view of the commencement of class work from June 15. “We were asked by the school management to pay amount at once for all the items required for our LKG kid. They suggested us to buy in the school it self and charged over Rs 1,500,” said a parent S.Joji who admitted his son into a school.
While some schools charge Rs. 1, 500 for set of books for LKG students others charge more than Rs. 2, 500 for the same books and stationery. 'For an LKG student schools are asking to buy three pairs of uniform which is not necessary for a kid who spends only half day in school. Since the rule is must we have to buy three pairs, which only benefits the textile merchants and tailors", said a parent.
Parents are also worried about the increasing expenditure for books and other items.
