Salim Raj, six others get bail in land grabbing case

The accused were restricted from entering Thiruvananthapuram district

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Salim Raj and six others, accused in the Kadakampally land grab case, were granted bail by the CBI special court here on Tuesday. Salim Raj, former gunman of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, later told reporters that he had no involvement in the land grab cases. He also said that the reports that he had signed six deals related to the Kadakampally scam were baseless. “I still firmly believe that the CBI will unearth the truth,” he said.

Even as the CBI opposed granting bail to the accused citing their ability to influence the witness, the court granted them conditional bail. The accused were restricted from entering
Thiruvananthapuram district and will have to report at CBI office in Kochi on all Saturdays. Moreover, they should appear before the investigation officer whenever demanded. Each accused was directed to produce a bond of '50,000 and two solvent sureties.

The others granted bail were deputy tahsildar Vidyodhaya Kumar, C.K. Jayaram, Nizar Ahammed, Abdul Majeed, Abdul Ashraf and S.M. Salim. The court also permitted Abdul Ashraf to visit a private hospital for health check-up in connection with his liver ailments.
