Remove night food court at stadium: SAAP chairman
Mr Mohan said he had already met and urged commissioner of police to do the needful
Vijayawada: Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh chairperson P.R. Mohan, on Tuesday, said that pressure should be mounted on the elected representatives to ensure that night food court is removed from the football court at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium.
Adding fuel to the row over setting up of food court in a place meant for sports, city police, recently, started organising cultural programmes at the there. Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Mohan said he had already met and urged commissioner of police A.B. Venkateswara Rao to do the needful for removal of the food court as rich people were getting into the court with their cars.
Olympic Run on June 23:
The sports fraternity of Andhra Pradesh is gearing up to take part in the first mega sports event Swarnandhra Olympic Run in Andhra Pradesh, post bifurcation. Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association, in collaboration with various other sports associations and private partners, will conduct the Olympic Run on June 23, as part of World Olympic Day.
Over 30,000 children are expected to take part in the run, which is likely to be flagged off by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, according to APOA secretary Mr R.K. Purushotham. Participants have to gather at five centres in city- KBN College, MG Baigh High School, Singh Nagar, APSRM School, Krishna Lanka, SRR & CVR college, Machavaram and NTR Statue, Patamata, and run to IGMC stadium, he said.
SAAP chairperson P.R. Mohan urged prominent people from various fields to take part in the Run. Mr Mohan said that India will bid for 2024 Olympics and it needs a lot of struggle to get a chance to host the event. Mr Naidu is supporting sports in AP and allotted over 1,200 acres in the capital region for sports and games, he said.
