Raja charges IIT with yielding to pressure
Chennai: Expressing shock at “the manner and methodology deployed” by IIT-M to resolve the Ambedkar-Periyar Study Circle (AP SC) issue, BJP national secretary H. Raja has charged the administration with yielding to pressure from “a handful of indisciplined elements on campus whose only aim is to create caste and communal riot on the campus.“Right from the beginning the IIT-M has been mishandling the whole issue...,” he said and accused the dean who happened to be faculty adviser to APSC of deliberately leaking a letter dated May 5 from the Under Secretary of Union HRD ministry . This (leaking of communication) was done with the ulterior purpose of making an internal matter of discipline in the institute public and create uproar in support of APSC.
Secondly, two crucial elements viz. violating the conditions of recognition and “outrageous matter put up on the notice board calling to destroy Hindu religion,” ought to be taken into account. “Violation of conditions of recognition for the student group may be an internal matter. But what about the call to destroy the Hindu religion. Hundred crore Hindus of this country are connected to this,” Mr Raja said and added he was at a loss to understand why this second issue was not taken into consideration when an attempt was made to resolve the problem.
Wondering what message the IIT-M was trying to send to the public, particularly Hindus, by allowing attack on Hindu religion on the campus, the senior BJP leader pointed out that in the past the premier institution had permitted the kiss of love programme, allowed screening of d-ocumentary glorifying terrorist Madani, Teesta Setalwad, facing criminal charges for misusing her NGO funds, was allowed to “spew venom at our Prime Minister.” And now the call to destroy Hindu religion.
He also pointed out that Dr Ambedkar had told the Constituent Assembly that only Sanskrit had to be made the official language of the country and that he would not allow any Dalit to accept Islam or Christianity.
