Hyderabad: Man held for zoo show-off
Hyderabad: A man was arrested by the Bahadurpura police on Tuesday after he entered the restricted zone in the Nehru Zoological Park and took photographs and videos of a Jaguar, while pulling its paw. Areeb Taha Mehdi, share broker from Malakpet, confessed that he was obsessed with wild animals as he used to watch a lot of documentaries on Animal Planet and Discovery channels. “It was my life’s dream to touch a Jaguar,” he told the police later.
Mr Mehdi, who visited the zoo on Friday, had allegedly bribed the zoo keeper and entered the “Jaguar Night House”. "He pulled the paw of the animal and started teasing it, while his friends photographed and recorded it," said South Zone DCP V. Satyanarayana.
Mr Mehdi later posted the photographs and video online and wrote: “If anyone want to have such mind blowing experience, do let me know.” (sic) Based on a complaint filed by Mr Mohiuddin, the assistant curator of the zoo, the local police booked a case. They tracked the accused on Facebook and arrested him. Police booked a case against him under IPC Section 448 (for trespass) and section 38 J of the Wildlife Protection Act.
