Filipino held at Kempegowda International Airport for drug smuggling
Bengaluru: The Narcotics Control Bureau, on Monday arrested a Filipino man soon after he landed at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) from Abu Dhabi and seized around 54 grams of cocaine, worth over Rs 50 lakh, from him.
On suspicion a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer stopped and searched Garcia, the accused. He had concealed the contraband in his shoes and was caught, when he was secretly trying to take it out and put it in his bag.
The CISF immediately alerted the NCB office and a team of officers arrived at the KIA and took the accused in their custody. Garcia reportedly told the NCB officers that he was carrying the contraband drug from Brazil, where someone had asked him to deliver it to a Filipina woman in a hotel in Bengaluru.
Garcia was arrested under Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and was produced before the designated court. He has since been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days and lodged in Central Prison at Parapanna Agrahara.
