80-year-old robbed, murdered in Hyderabad

Police said D. Veeramani was found dead inside the bathroom on a chair

Hyderabad: Alleged robbers killed a paralysed 80-year-old woman in her house before fleeing with 120 grams of gold at Ramanthapur on Tuesday. They entered the house when she was alone. Police said D. Veeramani was found dead inside the bathroom on a chair with a injury on her head. The injury was caused by a blunt instrument, police said.

According to the Uppal police there is no sign of a break-in, or any damage to the house.

“The incident occurred between 12.10 pm and 12.40 pm when her son, D. Chandrashekar, a kirana shop owner, and daughter-in-law were not in the house,” said inspector Y. Narasimha Reddy. Police suspects that the assailant must have slammed the victim’s head on a tap, following which Veeramani died. “She was suffering from paralysis. The head injury must have caused the death,” the inspector said. A case for murder for gain has been booked.
