Vijay donates Rs 25 lakh; Suriya gifts sweets, clothes
The Tamil Nadu Film Directors Association (TANTIS) is gearing up for the election of its new office bearers for the tenure 2015-17 on July 5. The association, which boasts around 2,500 permanent members, will conduct the election for 21 posts and will chalk out various plans to uplift the fortunes of filmmakers and assistant directors.
The association opened a theatre recently named after the late filmmaker K Balachander, and according to veteran director Vikraman, actor Vijay contributed a sum of Rs25 lakh, and Suriya gifted dress materials and sweets to the members. Director AL Vijay has contributed a projector and Sundar C lent a helping hand to the union.
Vikraman says, “The nominations for the election will be done on June 19, 20 and 22. We are indebted to work for the welfare of directors. Many issues have to be addressed considering the present situation of the film industry. We are planning to screen short films and international films followed by discussions and analyses on a weekly basis. Around 40 aspiring filmmakers who started their journey with short films have become directors now.”Vikraman is contesting for the post of president.
