Cyclonic storm ASHOBAA to hit India’s west coast by Wednesday night

This may encourage rainfall at most places over coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Goa

Mumbai: The much-loved monsoon are about to hit Mumbai with a bang. No, it’s not news channels giving us first-hand information this time. There are signs from up above. Wonder how? NASA astronaut Terry W. Virts, known for posting his stunning imagery of the Earth and celestial phenomena from space, on Monday posted a photograph of a tropical cyclone swirling above Mumbai, just at the onset of monsoon.

Photographs taken by Vrits show a truly breathtaking image of white clouds spiralling across the blue background of the sky.

According to the MeT Department, cyclonic storm 'ASHOBAA' will be moving north-north-westwards and will intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm by Wednesday night.

This may encourage rainfall at most places over coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Goa as well as south Gujarat with isolated heavy falls.

Strong winds speed reaching 70 to 120 kilometres per hour would prevail along and off Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra coasts.

According to the MeT Department, sea condition would be very rough to high along and off Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra coasts.

In Gujarat, weather department has issued a warning to fishermen along the coast following the storm. As a precautionary measure, danger signal number 2 has been hoisted at all ports of Gujarat.
