Mumbai: French footballer Nicolas Anelka is all set for his second outing in India. On Tuesday, the striker was signed as the marquee player for the 2015 edition of the Indian Super League (ISL).
The footballer scored twice, with two assists, in the inaugural edition of ISL and was one of the best foreign players around.
“I am glad to be back in Mumbai City FC again. I really enjoyed my time there last season and I can’t wait to see Mumbai, India and all you fans again. See you very soon. Let’s football,” said Anelka, who has almost 500 club appearances in his career.
Team owner Ranbir Kapoor is also elated to have Anelka back in the proceedings.
“I am really happy to have Anelka back for Mumbai City FC. The fact is, that he played really well for us last year, and while the plan this year is to build a smart and strong squad, it is important to retain some continuity from last season, and Anelka plays a major role in that plan,” he said.
The former French international has rubbed shoulders with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Juventus in the past.
