Will go ahead at any cost: CM Oommen Chandy

CM says government will have to ignore Opposition and proceed if it tries to stall Vizhinjam project

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the Assembly on Monday that the Vizhinjam port project would be implemented at any cost.

“Even as the government offered to address all concerns of the Opposition, it was trying to stall the project raising baseless allegations. If the Opposition continues with such an attitude, the government will not consider it and will go ahead with the state’s dream project at any cost,” Mr. Chandy said replying to Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan's allegations.

Mr. Chandy also said that he had met Mr Gautam Adani along with many officials to discuss the prospects of the project. The meeting was held at Mr K.V. Thomas's house as Mr Adani was known to Mr Thomas who was a former union minister.

Ports Minister K. Babu countered the Opposition's allegations. “During his term as chief minister, Mr. Achuthanandan had also held talks with Gautam Adani in connection with the Vizhinjam port project. There were no minutes for those meeting also,” he said.

Mr. Achuthanandan alleged that the government was diluting the norms in favour of private players.
