Maggi masala leaves bad taste: State Food Laboratory
Hyderabad: The “masala” of Maggi noodles contains MSG, or Monosodium Glutamate, but not the noodles themselves, stated the State Food Laboratory, Hyderabad, in its report submitted on Monday.
The samples were collected by the Balala Hakkula Sangham and given to the state laboratory for testing. There were 22 packets seized by food inspectors from various districts of both states.
The report has observed that the “tastemaker” of the instant noodles contained MSG without declaration. Hence, the comments highlight that it is “misbranded” and action should be taken according to the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India norms.
A senior officer said, “The reports are going to be put before the state government for further action. According to the orders of the FSSAI, the brand has been recalled from all supermarkets and kirana stores. Our inspectors are checking for illegal sale of the product and will book cases accordingly.”
The samples tested so far have no word on the content of lead. A senior officer said, “The other samples which were seized from districts are yet to be tested. After that a comprehensive report will be submitted to the government. As there is a shortage of analysts, it is taking time.”
Meanwhile, the central food safety regulator on Monday ordered all states to test various other brand of noodles, pasta and macaroni to check compliance of norms in the wake of the Maggi controversy.
