Kozhikode: The High Court has stopped the reconstruction of the gutted building at SM Street by the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi following a petition filed by the Wakf Board that it owned a portion of the shop. However, KVVES president T. Nasarudhin had claimed that he owned the building and the shop owners had almost completed the reconstruction.
But the city police are still groping in the dark to find out the exact reasons for the recent fire at SM Street. Though they had said that the fire was due to a short circuit, the KSEB officials had ruled out such a possibility after detailed examination of the site.
Assistant commissioner of police (South) A.J. Babu told DC that the investigation team was yet to get a scientific report from the forensic lab.
City commissioner of police, P.A. Valsan, however, contradicted this and said that the forensic team could not find any reason behind the fire and had to collect fresh samples from the accident spot. Mr Babu denied this and said the team had not collected any fresh samples but was analysing the samples taken immediately after the fire.
“Our initial investigation suggests that the fire could have been caused by a short circuit. The forensic team could not find any evidence from the first samples and they had to collect fresh samples. These have been sent for further testing,” Mr Valsan said.
