Karnataka government files IA over BBMP elections

The judge is expected to hear the IA on Tuesday

BENGALURU: The state government on Monday filed an interlocutory application (IA) before the single judge bench which had earlier directed it to complete the process of holding BBMP elections by May 30.

The issue had reached the Supreme Court, which in May directed the state to hold elections within three months. Justice B.V. Nagarathna observed why the government cannot approach the apex court seeking clarification on the issue. The judge is expected to hear the IA on Tuesday.

In the IA, the state has said that 2011 census was published in 2013 and the process of delimitation ended in February 2015. Because of pending litigation, the government could not notify it, and by then the HC issued directions to hold elections with the existing list.

Relief for Prestige

The court quashed the orders passed by civic authorities against Prestige Builders, with respect to its project at Pattandur Agrahara in Whitefield that covers 3.23 acres. Passing the order, the court asked the authorities to consider the issue afresh, as the petitioners were not given a hearing.
