Farook College to break off ties with Aligarh Muslim University

Legal action initiated against varisity

Kozhikode: The Farook College has decided to sever its ties with the Aligarh Muslim University following the allegations of malpractices raised by the AMU in the recently-declared MBBS/BDS results in which the college was a test centre.

The college management said that the AMU’s charge had damaged the reputation of the institution. It will not allow the AMU centres to conduct exams in future.

The college has already initiated legal action against the university and its Malappuram centre director seeking an apology and an explanation for the comments made by the VC and the director accusing the Kozhikode centre of malpractices.

College principal Prof E.P. Imbichikoya said that the comments had tarnished the image of the college. “The VC said that the success rate of the candidates from Kozhikode was ‘flagrantly high and defying the laws of averages and logic.’

They should understand that Kerala has a very good educational system compared to other states and it is evident from the results of other competitive examinations results too.

In AIIMS and IITs, the number of Malayali students is very high. Moreover, the examination is conducted by a team from the AMU and its Malappuram centre. We just facilitate the process. We have explained it to the VC during his recent visit. However, since they refused to clarify the issue with proof, we decided to seek legal recourse and also not to entertain any programmes of the AMU in future,” he added.

The AMU had cancelled the results of MBBS/BDS entrance exam for 2015-16 conducted at 11 centres on April 26 following allegations of malpractices at its Kozhikode centre and constituted a three-member committee to probe into it.

The matter came to light on May 23 when the AMU Vice- Chancellor Lt Gen Zameeruddin Shah instituted a preliminary inquiry after the university officials found that more than 30 candidates, out of a total 79 selected, belonged to the Kozhikode centre. However, the college has not received any intimation about the probe, said the principal.
