Cash-for-vote row: Chandrababu Naidu should quit and face inquiry, says YSRC

‘We demand that he quit his post on moral grounds’

Hyderabad: Demanding the resignation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, opposition YSR Congress on Tuesday asked him to "prove his innocence" in the cash-for-vote case, and also refrain from whipping regional passions.

"Ever since the scam broke out, neither did Chandrababu Naidu condemn it nor did he categorically state that the voice recorded in the phone was not his, instead he has been giving inflammatory speeches and whipping regional passions. He should quit and prove his innocence by facing an inquiry," party leader Botsa Satyanarayana told reporters.

Naidu has been speaking in a tone that would pit people of one region against the other, he alleged.

"We demand that he quit his post on moral grounds and come out clean in the investigation instead of giving speeches. The phone tapping issue can be taken up at the appropriate level for a contest, but he did not deny that the voice recorded was his own nor anyone from his party has condemned the conduct of Revanth Reddy.

On May 31, the ACB arrested TDP MLA Revanth Reddy for allegedly trying to bribe the nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson to vote for TDP nominee in the Telangana Legislative Council election.

"Even the name of the Governor is being dragged into the issue showing scant respect for the protocol," he alleged.

Satyanarayana charged that Naidu's electoral ally BJP has distanced itself from the episode, which shows the gravity of the charges and the TDP leader is resorting to "self-boasting and bravado despite being boxed from all sides, legally".
