Bengaluru: High drama in JC Nagar, mentally challenged man threatens suicide

The accused identified as Mahesh said to be a native of Mandya

BENGALURU: High drama prevailed at J.C .Nagar on Monday afternoon after a 25-year-old mentally disturbed man climbed a mango tree threatening to commit suicide. The traffic was disrupted for over two hours on the busy road. The incident occurred opposite Fun World near TV Tower around 1 pm. The accused identified as Mahesh said to be a native of Mandya.

Fire department officials said that a call was made to the control room around 1 pm about a man threatening to commit suicide. A team of fire rescue officers with three vehicles and an aerial ladder platform rushed to the spot, and brought Mahesh down after much persistence. The traffic police had to stop the movement of vehicles to allow fire department officials to carry out the rescue work.

Traffic could be brought back to normal only after one hour. Immediately after his rescue, Mahesh was sent to the hospital for a checkup as it was believed that Mahesh was depressed and mentally disturbed.

“We are yet to ascertain the reason behind the extreme step being taken by Mahesh. During investigation the police learnt that Mahesh is mentally disturbed and is in depression. The police are yet to question him in this regard,’ said an investigating officer.
