Hyderabad: Forensic examination with video-audio authentication equipment will be vital corroborative evidence in the ‘cash for vote’ scam.
AP Forensic Science Laboratory at Hyderabad has specialised equipment to authenticate both video and audio tapes of the scam.
APFSL former director Sarada said, “APFSL has crores worth of forensic audio-video authentication equipment. Five of the staff members were trained in Cambridge in video audio authentication. Be it an audio tape from a mobile phone or phone tapping, experts can identify the voice. Only labs in Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Kerala have these equipment.”
APFSL has so far received at least 16 cases, mostly phone tapping. and hate speech cases including that of MIM MLA, Akbaruddin Owaisi.
“Authentication and identification of voice can be done both in audio and video tapes. Any manipulation, tailoring, doctoring and deletion can be detected. Apart from listening the voice samples of the accused will be taken and matched with the original. Voice spectrograph will be used for the same,” she said.
APFSL has tackled the famous Anara Gupta case. “Any forensic evidence is not direct evidence, it is only corroborative evidence. There are several cases where courts considered forensic evidence to convict the accused beyond reasonable doubt,” she added.
