Aadhaar to end meal sop flaws
Officials inflate the number of students

Khammam: The state government has planned to check the misuse of funds in midday meal scheme by linking the Aadhaar number of the students to the scheme. For that, the education department officials have asked all students to register their names with Aadhaar to submit them in their respective schools. The government conducted a survey on the misuse of government funds in the social welfare schemes.
About 18 per cent of the funds are going waste due to the misappropriation of funds at different levels. The misuse is not only in the midday meal scheme but also in text books, school dresses and the funds being released to provide basic facilities. The linkage of Aadhaar number to the beneficiaries can be checked for such malpractice.
On the other hand, the government has decided to extend free education to all students from KG to the PG. The officials have been asked complete the details before June 30. Many school officials are inflating the number of students enrolled and thereby misusing the funds under the scheme. There are 3.46 lakh students from Class I to Class X in all category of schools in the district. The officials have procured the Aadhaar numbers of 1.76 lakh students so far and efforts are on to collect details of another 1.66 lakh students.
The government is also planning to collect the Aadhaar details of the students studying in private schools keeping the necessity of them in the future in view. An official said, “Some of the private school managements are trying to put a query fearing their transactions will be under scanner with the system.”
